Detroit is are located just across the bridge from Windsor, Ontario, approximately 200 km from London, Ontario and approximately 400 km from Toronto, Ontario.
It’s important for Canadian visitors to understand that Detroit isn’t like most other cities, as you won’t find much in the way of shopping in the downtown core. However, there are plenty of great shopping venues in the surrounding suburbs of Troy, Auburn Hills, Dearborn and Novi.

If you’re planning on shopping in Detroit, Troy, Auburn Hills, Dearborn or Novi, Michigan, you have a number of options, including the high end Somerset Collection Mall in Troy, the Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn, the Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi and the Great Lakes Crossing Outlet Mall in Auburn Hills. As you would expect, Detroit area shopping features all of the department stores, retailers and outlet shops you are looking for, including H & M, Kenneth Cole, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th.
If you want to shop off the beaten path, you may want to check out the boutique shops in Ferndale, Royal Oak and Birmingham, all located approximately 10 minutes from each other.
