IMPORTANT NOTE: On March 29, 2012, the Federal Government announced that it will be increasing duty free allowances for Canadians. The new duty free limits take effect on June 1, 2012. Until then, the old duty free allowances will be in effect. This is welcome news for all Canadians who enjoy cross border shopping.
Accordingly, we will no longer be accepting petition signatures at this time. We thank all of you who signed the petition for your support, and will continue to provide you with valuable cross border shopping information.
If you are unhappy with the unreasonably low duty free allowances currently available to Canadians, please sign the petition below.
The more signatures we receive, the more likely your voice will be heard.
On November 28, 2011, we launched the following petition requesting that the Minister of Finance increase duty free limits for Canadians. A hard copy of the petition and signatures will be delivered to the Minister of Finance in early 2012.

Petition:
We, the Canadian consumers, request that the Minister of Finance institute a duty free allowance in the amount of $200 for Canadians returning from stays of less than 48 hours in the United States.
Currently, Canadians are not permitted any duty free allowance for stays of less than 24 hours in the United States, and are only permitted a $50 duty free allowance for stays of more than 24 hours but less than 48 hours. Our American neighbours, however, are entitled to a $200 duty free allowance when returning from all stays in Canada of less than 48 hours. In the spirit of fairness and consumer choice, we respectfully urge you to implement this request as soon as possible.
